Shotsell

AI-Powered Product Photography Studio

2024 · iOS · Web · Design & Development

The Challenge

Independent sellers on marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon and Shopify need professional product photography to stand out — but studio sessions cost hundreds of dollars and take days to arrange. Small sellers with tight budgets were stuck with flat, uninspiring product shots that hurt their conversion rates.

The goal was clear: build a tool that lets any seller produce studio-quality product images from their own phone, in seconds, without a photographer or a lighting rig.

Our Approach

We designed and built Shotsell as a mobile-first AI photography studio. The workflow is intentionally simple: upload a product photo, describe the scene you want — or choose from curated presets — and the AI generates a professional result in seconds. No setup, no post-processing.

Every design decision was made to reduce friction. Onboarding opens with a before/after slider that shows the transformation immediately — users understand the product before they've typed a word. Scene presets load dynamically from the API so the content team can update them without touching the app. RevenueCat handles subscriptions natively on iOS; Apple Sign In makes account creation instant.

What We Built

  • iOS app and web companion — full design and development from scratch
  • AI generation pipeline: photo upload → scene selection → studio-quality output
  • HEIC auto-conversion, 1:1 and 9:16 output formats for different marketplaces
  • Before/after comparison view in the result screen
  • Generation history with thumbnail grid and infinite scroll
  • Native iOS share sheet and direct camera roll export
  • RevenueCat-powered subscriptions with free trial tier
  • Apple Sign In and email/password authentication
  • Firebase Analytics and PostHog for event tracking

The Results

Shotsell launched on the App Store with a free trial tier so sellers can experience the full quality before subscribing. The model eliminates the upfront cost barrier that keeps small sellers away from professional photography.

What previously took a studio session, days of scheduling, and significant budget can now be done in minutes from a phone. The web companion extends the product beyond mobile, giving sellers access from any device.
